Mary Ellen (Boyd) Jensen, 80, a lifelong resident of Iowa City, passed away peacefully in her sleep early on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father Steven Witt will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Patrick's Parish Hall (St. Patrick's Church).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church or The Regina Foundation.

Mary Ellen was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary Boyd. Mary Ellen graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1955. In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) where they started their journey of 61 wonderful years together. Mary Ellen loved to spend time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. One of her favorite sayings to the grandchildren was, "Love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."

Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, James (Jim); and their six children, James (Jimbo) Jensen, Theresa (Tim) Kleinmeyer, Mike (Fran) Jensen, Kelly Jensen, Kevin Jensen, David (Tami) Jensen; and three daughters-in-law, Patti, Julie and Deb; and son-in-law, Lance (Joan) Crum; her lifelong special friends, Harry and Marilyn Rogers; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Boyd; sister, Margie (Dick) McNamara; brothers, Mike (Sally) Boyd, Jerry (Linda) Boyd, Tom (Carole) Boyd and Bill (Sheila) Boyd; brothers-in-law, Dick Jensen, Jerry Jensen and Chuck Jensen.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Paul H. and Mary L. Boyd; brother, Pat Boyd; sister, Debbie Jensen; brothers-in-law, Bill and Tom Jensen; and sister-in-law, Julie Jensen; and her beloved daughter, Jeanne Crum.
