CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Thursday on charges that he sexually abused a three-month old child.
Aaron Jacob Wingerson, 28, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child.
According to a criminal complaint, Wingerson was in his residence — an apartment in Cedar Rapids — with the baby on Thursday while the child’s parents were outside the building. The parents were on a FaceTime call with a phone they had set up in the room with the baby when they saw Wingerson start to sexually abuse the child.
The parents attempted to get back into the apartment, but they didn’t have keys and ended up kicking down the door. Wingerson fled from the scene but was later apprehended by Cedar Rapids Police officers. They took him to the police department, where he confessed to the sexual abuse, the complaint states.
Wingerson had his first appearance in court Friday and is being held in the Linn County Jail on a $35,000 cash-only bond. A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the baby and the baby’s parents.
