3 Gazette area stars from the 2024 Iowa high school boys’ state wrestling quarterfinals

DES MOINES — Three Gazette area stars from Thursday’s quarterfinal round of the Iowa high school boys’ state wrestling tournament:
Thomas Sexton, Decorah
The seventh-seeded, 190-pound sophomore defeated 2023 state finalist and No. 2 seed Brody Sampson of Ballard, 10-6, in the Class 2A quarterfinals.
Tiernan Boots, Lisbon
The Class 1A 144-pound No. 5-seed Boots handed North Tama’s Kolt Knaack his first loss of the season, recording a second-period pin and avenging a loss to Knaack at last year’s state meet.
Collin Holm, South Winneshiek
The returning state finalist seeded third major decisioned Wilton’s Jordan Dusenberry, 12-0, to reach the 144 semifinals. Holm has outscored two state foes, 19-1.
