Robert James McBurney Jr., 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Nov. 24, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel with visitation one hour before the service. Inurnment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date.
Robert was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the only child of Robert Sr. and Geraldine McBurney. During the Korean War, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. After graduating from William Penn University, Robert married Janice Floyd on Dec. 28, 1960, in Oskaloosa. He went on to teach science and coach basketball in Marengo, Bettendorf and Taft Middle School in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janice McBurney; son, Jay Robert (Christa) McBurney; and two grandchildren, Madeleine and Elliott McBurney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity in memory of Robert.
