John M. Freeman, 90, of Spartanburg, S.C., formerly of Cedar Rapids, went to the Lord on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.
Public graveside service will be noon Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Fahnle of Inman, S.C., and their three children, Jason (Melissa) Fahnle, Brian (Robyn) Fahnle, Anna (Carl Jones) Fahnle, all of South Carolina; Michael (Laura) Jump, Dustin (Nikki) Timmons, Brandon (Crystal) Wellner and Amanda (Josh) Newton, all of Iowa; son-in-law, Randy Wellner of Iowa; great-grandchildren, Zach, Laura, Allison Fahnle, Lucie Fahnle, Liam and Nora Ann Jump, Abel Timmons, Addison and Jasper Newton and Nicholas and Chloe Wellner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Laura Freeman; wife, LaVonne "Bonnie" Freeman; daughter, Karen Wellner; two sisters, Winifred Ennis and Dorothy Graham; and a brother, Thomas Freeman.
John Melvin Freeman was born June 3, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Laura (Crane) Freeman. He attended St. Patrick's School and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. On July 2, 1949, he married LaVonne "Bonnie" Long in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bonnie died Aug. 30, 1998. John worked for Link Belt Speeder/F.M.C. as a welder for more than 40 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community School District for six years.
