CEDAR RAPIDS — A Guatemalan Mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids has closed less than a year after opening.
Guatemex Restaurant Elenita, which opened in June at 1616 First Ave. NE, closed on an unspecified recent date. Its Facebook page was updated to “permanently closed” about a week ago.
In addition to Mexican food, which has saturated the Cedar Rapids market with more than 30 options, the restaurant offered a unique specialty in Central American cuisine at a modest price.
Its building was previously home to Brick City Grill.
