David Douglas Laton, 50, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at his home in Cedar Rapids because of cancer.
A celebration of David's life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at the Vinton American Legion.
David was born Feb. 27, 1967, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Richard Vernon and Victoria L. Fowler Laton. He was baptized at First Baptist Church in Vinton. He was a 1985 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton.
David currently had been attending Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and would have graduated with an engineering degree in May. He worked as a foreman on various new construction projects in Cedar Rapids.
David enjoyed disc golf, golfing, woodworking, hunting, fishing and riding his bike.
David is survived by his parents, Vicki and Craig Streeter of Vinton and Rick and Marsha Laton of Princeton, Ill.; daughter, Courtney Laton, and son, Robert Essex, both of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jason (Tammy) Laton of Vinton; sister, Jennifer Laton of Waterloo; stepbrothers, Aaron (Mary) Streeter of Hiawatha and Shane (Liz) Streeter of Urbana; grandchildren, Joebe and Adeline; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Dodie Laton, Lyle and Evelyn Fowler and Mildred Hansen; and his beloved dog, Savannah.
A memorial fund has been established.
