Darlene Lois Schwarting was born November 14, 1933, at her home in Lincoln Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Henry and Rosa (Roggentien) Brown. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1952. Darlene was united in marriage to Duane Schwarting on August 15, 1953, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. They made their home near Homestead where they raised their family and farmed. Darlene was a homemaker and worked side by side on the farm with Duane. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Darlene enjoyed square dancing, bowling and spending time with family. Darlene died Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo, at the age of 90 years.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Duane, of Homestead; son, Kevin (JoAnn) Schwarting, of Homestead; granddaughter, Natalie Schwarting and grandson, Jess Liebold. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Darrell Schwarting, three brothers, Gene (Marge) Brown, Robert Brown at 9 months and Carroll Dean Brown in infancy and a half brother Melvin (Jane) Brown.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Safe Haven of Iowa County.
