David William Carlin, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital. A Celebration of life gathering will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
David was born November 15, 1941, in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Patrick Clair and Eugenia Elizabeth (Horkheimer) Carlin. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School, class of 1960. David worked at Iowa Steel as a pattern maker for over fourteen years and was an over the road truck driver for over thirty years until retiring in 2006. He was united in marriage Joan Rego in August of 1983. David enjoyed fishing, watching basketball, working on the computer and most of all spending time with his family.
David is survived by his wife Joan; children Jerry Carlin, Dave Carlin, John Carlin, Travis Neumann, Carrie (Thomas) Schroeder, and Patrick (Brooke) Carlin; seven grandchildren; his brother Don Carlin, Patrick (Melba) Carlin, Steven (Deb) Carlin; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Greg Carlin.
