Richard Thomas Davin was born Aug. 19, 1931, to Thomas and Mildred Davin. He attended school in Cosgrove and proudly served in the Army two years as sergeant. Dick met his best friend Mary (Kucera) at a dance. They were married June 9, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell. They have seven children. Cindy (Cliff) Haugland; Tom (Judy) Davin; John Davin; Julie (Mike) Quinlan; Teresa (Dan) Cramer; Lori (Paul) Sullivan and Amy (LaWayne) Luers. He has 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Dick was committed to his Catholic faith and enjoyed daily mass at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City. He and Mary later joined St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City where they could be seen often. One of his joys in life was having a close relationship with several of the priests over his lifetime, including Father Setonga and being involved in projects to provide safe drinking water in Tanzania. He enjoyed visiting those in nursing homes and hospitalized.
Dick and Mary had a passion for antiques and they opened an antique store at their home on Muscatine Avenue for 30 years. They then opened their real estate office on Dubuque Street in Iowa City for 35 years. In 2004, both Dick and Mary were recognized as Iowa City Area Realtors of the year.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, sister Mina Lee (Pat) Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. He will be reunited with his parents, in-laws Charles and Emma Kucera, Daughter-in-Law Michelle Davin; Great-Grandchild Grayson Seye; and many close relatives who have preceded him.
His biggest joy was his family. He was a friend to many over the years and was a wonderful story teller.
