What to know: Iowa is coming off an 84-70 loss to No. 2 Purdue last Saturday. Maryland has dropped its last two games by a total of five points, the latest a 61-59 home loss against Michigan State Sunday.
The Hawkeyes have won their last four games against Maryland.
Maryland fifth-year guard Jahmir Young is a shoo-in to be first-team All-Big Ten. Young averages 20.7 points and 4.1 assists, and is the Big Ten leader in free throw percentage (.898). He has made his last 25 foul shots. He has averaged 25.4 points over his last seven games.
Young is the only active player in Division I with over 2,000 points, 650 rebounds and 400 assists. He has 2,347 career points. He has games of 37 and 36 points this season.
“He’s got a command of what he wants to do,” said Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery. “There’s not much he hasn’t seen. He plays with a tremendous amount of confidence.
“He has a real ability to make big shots late. He wants to shoot the ball late.”
Maryland junior forward Julian Reese is second in the league in rebounding with 9.8 per game, and averages 2.2 blocked shots.
Iowa’s Josh Dix has made nine of his last 13 3-point tries. He also has 12 assists over the last two games, including a career-high seven against Purdue.
Hawkeye guard Tony Perkins has 50 assists to 11 turnovers over the last eight games.
None of Iowa’s 18 games have been decided by less than eight points.
