Dean Edward Donels, 73, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, following a brief illness, at Martin Medical Center in Stuart, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, also at the funeral home. Private family committal services will be held on Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Dean was born Feb. 14, 1944, to Leon and Frances (Albert) Donels at Urbana. He graduated from Shellsburg High School. Dean worked as a repair and maintenance technician for South Slope Telephone Co. for many years. Dean loved his family, flowers and gardening.
Dean is survived by the mother of his three children, Carol Kindl, whom he enjoyed 23 years of marriage with and together passionately shared in the lives of their three children. He also is survived by his children, Todd (Jennifer) Donels of Grinnell, Wade (Shonda) Donels of Collierville, Tenn., and Shane (Amy) Donels of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Jace, Addison, Faith, Blake, Bryce, Zoey, Tatem and Cael Donels and Gavin and Liberty Gilbert; his close friend, Norm Hatcher of Clarence; his sister, Joann (Bob) Jewett of South Carolina; and his three brothers, Richard Donels of Cedar Rapids, Stanley (Donna) Donels of Cedar Rapids and Dwayne Donels of Colorado.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Donels; and his sisters-in-law, Yvonne and Becky Donels.
