Kathleen Callan, 84, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was born on January 25, 1939, in Independence, the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Haximeier) Zieser. Kathleen was raised and educated in the Ryan area and was a 1957 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School.
On July 6, 1960, Kathleen was united in marriage to Jerome Callan at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan. Eight children were blessed to this union. Together they made their home in Manchester. Kathleen was a stay-at-home mom while raising their children. She then worked at Exide Battery from 1979 until her retirement in 2004.
Kathleen was a longtime active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and she faithfully attended Mass and prayed the Rosary daily. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Kathleen liked gardening, western swing dancing, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She enjoyed attending her grandkids’ school activities and going out with her friends and family. Her family was Kathleen’s greatest joy.
Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, David (Sherri) Callan of Spring Valley, Illinois, Joseph (Diane) Callan of Ottawa, Illinois, Thomas (Elizabeth) Callan and Mary (Shawn) Waterhouse all of Manchester, Patricia Glass of Manchester, Randall (Carrie) Callan of Central City, and Robert Callan of Manchester; son-in-law, Mark Fischer; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Francis (Pat) Zieser, Kenneth (Rose) Zieser, Sister Dolores Zieser, Rosalyn Zieser, Martin (Judy) Zieser, William (Ileen) Zieser, Janice (Paul) Hildebrand, and Patricia (Richard) Cook; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Zieser and Mary Jane Zieser; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerome in 2018; daughter, Karen Fischer; brothers, Louis (Marge) Zieser, Howard (Martha) Zieser, Philip Zieser, and James Zieser; and sister, Sister Josita Zieser.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.
