Michael Joseph Swift, 63, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at Spencer’s Grove Cemetery in Walker, Iowa.
Mike was born May 5, 1960, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of John Q. and Mary Louise (Lucey) Swift. He graduated from West Delaware High School, Class of 1979, and went on to obtain his associate degree in Aide to the Handicapped from Kirkwood College in 1981.
Mike loved music and attending live concerts. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football and wrestling teams and attended 42 straight seasons of Hawkeye football. Mike was a Minnesota Vikings fan since 1968. Some say he bled purple and gold. In honor of Mike, guests can wear black and gold or purple - but no green will be allowed.
Mike’s strength, courage, and resilience was nothing short of tremendous, he was truly a “Miracle Man.”
Survivors include his life partner, Mary Hoffman; dog, Chester Man Swift; siblings, Patrick (Jeanne) Swift of Cedar Rapids, Mary Ellen (Rick) Bratkiewicz of West Des Moines, Jim (Lori) Swift of Edina, Minnesota, Daniel (Kathy) Swift of Manchester, Bill (Barb) Swift of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Kathleen Swift (Fred Brown) of Huntington Beach, California, Dr. Mark Swift (Susan Bell) of Marengo, Iowa, Joseph (Kristine) Swift of Des Peres, Missouri, Dr. Maureen (Charlie) Young of Seattle, Washington; and lifelong friend, Dave (Laura) Koering of Shellsburg, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Jayne Swift.
Memorials may be directed to United Cerebral Palsy.
