Leona Mary Westemeier, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at her home. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Shueyville Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Leona was born July 21, 1926, in rural Oxford, the daughter of William and Mary (Netolicky) Novak. She married Raymond Westemeier on April 23, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. Leona was an in-home daycare provider for many families, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed baking kolaches, making homemade noodles, gardening, canning, sewing, quilting and, most of all, going to polka dances.
Leona is survived by her children, Carol (Kevin) Walter of Oxford, Alvin (Pam) Westemeier of Coggon and Carl Westemeier of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kris, Dan, Tiffany, Amber, Alex, Mark, Matt, Katelyn, Kendallyn and Karalyn; 10 great-grandchildren, Angel, Caden, Emily, Jasmine, Brookelynne, Sadie, Jonah, Rowan, Cameron and Tyton; her sister, Blanche Volesky of Cedar Rapids; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brothers, Louis (Ulana) Novak and William (Irene) Novak; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Volesky.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Essence of Life Hospice, and to her son, Carl, for their special care for Leona.
