Mary Lou Chambers, 84, passed away peacefully June 14, 2018, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree, Iowa. She was born Dec. 25, 1933, in Davenport, Iowa, to Vern and Elizabeth (Volrath) Meyer. Mary Lou was valedictorian of Davenport Assumption High School, Class of 1951. In 1952, she married William Peak in Davenport. They started their family soon after and settled in Iowa City, where she worked at the University of Iowa for more than 20 years. She married George Chambers in 1979 and remained in the Iowa City area her entire life, in close proximity to her family.
Mary Lou loved spending time with her family, hosting Sunday dinners as well as traveling, reading, collecting dolls, cake decorating, needlework, playing tennis and watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes, Bulls and Cubs.
Survivors include her children, Laurie (Marty) Birrer of Hills, Karen (Larry) Lenth of Solon, Bonnie (Chris) Dodds of Iowa City, Bill (Shelle) Peak of West Branch, Greg Peak of Iowa City, Tom (Diane) Peak of Riverside and Steve (Diann) Peak of Marion; stepson, David Chambers of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Gloria Keller of Bettendorf; sister-in-law, Mary Meyer of Davenport; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren (with one on the way).
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; stepson, John Chambers; brother, Robert Meyer; brother-in-law, Richard Keller; and two infant daughters, Barbara and Nancy.
