CEDAR RAPIDS — Two people face drug charges after authorities found them Thursday in a vehicle with a man who had a gunshot wound, according to Cedar Rapids police.
Officers were called to 130 Kirkwood Ct. SW at 11:19 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Witnesses described a car that left the scene, and police located one that matched the description nearby. Officers pulled the car over and found three men inside — one of whom had a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.
The man with the gunshot wound — who was not identified by police — was treated on scene and then transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other men — Derek Morrison Jr., 25, and Cordell Buress, 27 — are facing charges related to drugs and a firearm that police said they found in the car.
Morrison is charged with possession with intent to deliver controlled substance, failure to affix drug tax stamp and possession of a firearm by a felon. Buress is charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while license under suspension and cited with a speeding ticket.
Both appeared in court Friday. Buress was released on his own recognizance. Morrison was being held on a $10,000 bail.
