Keith Bright, 97, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Vezina (Tim) of Marion, stepchildren David Orr (Helen) of Gilroy, California, Dennis Orr (Barbara) of Cedar Rapids, Diane Standley (Richard) of Niantic, Connecticut, Denise Orr of Marion, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his cat and best buddy, Fred. A private family service and inurnment will take place in the Spring at the Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, his son John, brothers James and Gregory, granddaughter Kimberly and her son Raley.
Keith was born May 31, 1926, the son of Charles Bright and Loretta (Gilroy) Bright. He grew up in University Heights, graduated from St. Mary’s High School, and attended the University of Iowa prior to joining the US Navy during WW II.
He married Elizabeth (French) Orr in 1956. They made their life in Marion, where Keith worked for the US Postal Service in Marion and later Cedar Rapids until his retirement.
Keith was a skilled tennis player, teaching the sport in his younger days. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He was an avid Hawkeyes fan and attended several home football games with his daughter Mary. Growing up blocks from the stadium, he loved to share his childhood memories of watching football legend Nile Kinnick practice and play.
He enjoyed puttering outdoors in all kinds of weather and sitting on the porch swing on a summer day, watching his grandchildren shoot baskets. He enjoyed many family day trips as his children were growing up, and relished family gatherings. He was very proud of his family.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post 298.
