Mary Ann Wells, age 93 of Clarence, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence with Terry Hoy officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Green Center Cemetery, rural Morley.
Mary was born May 22, 1930 in Olin, Iowa to George and Vera (Wilkens) Smith. After attending Olin schools, she worked at the Shirt factory in Anamosa. In 1951 she married Dale Wells and became a full-time housewife. Mary enjoyed crafts, her birds, traveling and being Grandma Daycare.
Survivors include her children David (Margarette), Debbie (Rob) Hughes, Chris Christiansen, and Pamy (Jim) Craig; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother Seward “Joe” (Pauline) Smith; and sister-in-law Judy.
Preceding her in death were Dale, her husband of 71 years; their daughter Sue Ann; her parents; and her siblings Dan, George, Frank, Frieda, Ariel, Richard, Vera and Stanley.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
