John (Johnny) Jones, age 89, died Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, January 19, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa with interment in the Prairie Hill Cemetery, rural Monticello with Military Honors. Friends may call 9:00 Friday morning at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa has taken John and his family into their care.
Surviving is his wife Donna, 4 children, Karen (Craig) Batcheler, Kristi (Jeff) Fortune, Greg Jones, Mark (Kay) Jones, his sister, Katheryn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Betty, Pauline, Don, Robert, Dick and Russell.
John Wilbur Jones was born May 25, 1934, in Delaware County, Iowa. He was the son of Edwin and Gertrude Richmond, Jones. John graduated from the Hopkinton schools in 1953. He went on to serve in the United States Army. He returned home and went to work at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. He married Donna Hasler on September 6, 1959, at S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. John started farming with his father-in-law Fred Hasler in 1960 and eventually took over the complete farming operation. He retired from farming in 2000. In his youth John enjoyed playing baseball and softball; after he retired, he liked to do woodworking.
