Jerry Bush, Hoiberg’s grandfather, coached the Huskers to a win over No. 1 Kansas State in March 1958. Sam Hoiberg, Fred’s son, had nine points, three assists and three steals in Tuesday’s win.
Iowa guard Tony Perkins has 14 steals over the last four games. Payton Sandort’s 40 3-pointers trail only Ohio State’s Jamison Battle among Big Ten players.
Hawkeye freshman Owen Freeman, the Big Ten men’s basketball Freshman of the Week for the fifth time, has blocked at least one shot in each of the Hawkeyes’ last 13 games and has eight (and five steals) over the last three games.
Iowa forward Patrick McCaffery missed the last game with an illness. Hawkeyes Coach Fran McCaffery said Wednesday he thinks Patrick will be ready for Friday’s game.

Rienk Mast, a 6-foot-10 transfer from Bradley, averages 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds. Tominaga is from Japan, Mast from the Netherlands.
