CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The sounds of kids laughing and stacking metal cans filled Lindale Mall this morning. Corridor's Canstruction kicked off the weekend with local student groups, plus area engineers and architects building projects out of food cans. Six teams from the College Community school district helped to build two maps of the country. More than just fun, one organizer says today's event helps kids become more globally aware.
“It's really important for the kids to learn how hunger affects the US; just a great opportunity to help others,” said Miranda Zousel.
The students raised money to buy the food cans for this service learning project. All of the food used in the structures will be donated to HACAP and then distributed to local food banks.
