David R. Kessler, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha. Memorial services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include David's longtime significant other, Trudy Berry; and two daughters, Deborah Kessler of Cedar Rapids and Tracy Houston of Olin. He also is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Kessler of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul; and his dog, Scooter.
Dave was born on Aug. 7, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Roy and Dorothea Miller Kessler. He married Barb Hosford. They were later divorced.
Dave worked in the forestry division and later as a carpenter, working through the local Carpenters Union for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, yard work, gardening and was a skilled woodworker. Dave forever will be remembered as a wonderful companion, father, grandfather and friend.
Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
