Richard Lee Dietiker, 89, of Central City, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Jeremiah Dietiker. Burial with military honors will take place at North Boulder Cemetery, west of Prairieburg.
Richard was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Jones County, Iowa, the son of John and Mary (Guyan) Dietiker. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Richard was united in marriage to Vivian Cuvelier on Nov. 1, 1948, in Jackson, Mich. He was employed at the Anamosa Reformatory and Linn County Conservation. Richard was a member of the American Legion Wapsie Post No. 421 of Central City. Being a full-blooded Swiss, he enjoyed playing guitar, singing and yodeling. Richard loved music and "jam sessions." He also loved fishing, traveling, camping and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, John (Virginia) Dietiker of Fairfax, Ned Dietiker of Cedar Rapids, Joetta (Keith) Moyer of Nevada, Mary (Doug) LeClere of Coggon, Barbara (George) Kaufman of Center Point and Rick (Cheryl) Dietiker of Hopkinton; sister, Helen Ehlts of Anamosa; brother, Jim (Beverly) Dietiker of Richland, Mo.; 50 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marilyn Dietiker, in infancy; son, Randell Dietiker; wife, Vivian Dietiker; grandson, Anthony "Tony" Dietiker; two sisters, Lucille Klima and Dorothy Schmit; and a brother, Bob Dietiker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Richard's memory to the Falcon Civic Center Senior Dining Program in Central City, American Legion Wapsie Post No. 421 in Central City or Jones County Senior Dining Center in Anamosa.
