Jeraldine "Jeri" Opal Goudy, 92, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Michaelson Care Center in Batavia, Ill.
She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Rock Island, Ill., the daughter of Henry and Golda (nee Steiner) Hinrichs. She was united in marriage to William F. Goudy on Jan. 30, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jeri is survived by her two daughters, Andrea (Mary Johnson) Goudy of Batavia and Deborah (Richard) Goudy Ward of Bluffton, S.C.; one granddaughter, Angela (Thomas) Ward Wilson; and two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Chloe of Cumming, Ga; a sister-in-law, Pauline Randall of Springville; and several nieces.
Jeri was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Jeri graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1944, in Cedar Rapids and attended Coe College. She worked at Cornell College as the secretary to the vice president until 1971. As a longtime member of Linn Grove, she sang in the choir, taught Bible school and worked the famous annual suppers. Jeri had a passion for bridge, gardening, golfing, decorating and cooking. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and spending the cold winter months in Florida. An avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, Jeri never missed a home game. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, rural Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Carla Burge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jeri's name may be made to Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, 2000 Linn Grove Rd., Mount Vernon, IA 52314.
