LAURENE "LAURI" DIANE WERSTEIN EID Cedar Rapids Laurene "Lauri" Diane Werstein Eid, 71, of Spencer, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Lauri was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Dolores (Lyons) Franks. She graduated from Washington High School in 1965. She obtained her teaching degree from Northwest Missouri State University and later received a degree in nursing. She worked for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Lauri was married to Jack Werstein in 1985. One son, Jonathan, was born to this union. Jack passed away in 2000. She then married Dr. Ahmad Eid in 2003. Dr. Eid passed away in 2016. Lauri was a member of the local mosque and the founding member of the International Movement for World Peace. She enjoyed spending time on her iPad and staying connected with her family through Facebook. Lauri was an advocate for peace and was always promoting the Dayton International Peace Museum and the Peace Museum Vienna. Survivors include her son, Jonathan Werstein of Spencer, Iowa; brother, Lonnie D. Franks of Dayton, Ohio; stepbrother, Rick Reitzel of Cedar Rapids; niece, Judith Franks of Dayton, Ohio; and nephews, Michael Franks of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Matthew Reitzel of Cedar Rapids.
