Leona Ann Shramek, 81, of Solon, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Brosh Chapel. A burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Leona was born January 2, 1942, in Iowa City, the daughter of Emil Robert and Mary Emma (Tomash) Kadera. She was united in marriage to Ray Shramek on April 19, 1960, at First Presbyterian Church near Ely. Leona worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette from January 3, 1978, until retiring on December 31, 2002. She enjoyed camping, dancing, listening to Czech and country music, playing marbles and cards, but above all spending joyful time with family and friends.
Leona is survived by her children Brenda (Gary) Hovey, Rick (Mary) Shramek of Swisher, and Bonnie (Scott) Ollinger of Marion; five grandchildren, Heather Hovey (Kasey), Cliff (Joanie) Hedlund, Randy Shramek, Crystal Shramek (Ian) and Amanda Ollinger; four great-grandchildren, Natalie, Madison, Alivia and Kaden; her sister Doris Mouchka of Swisher; brothers-in-law, Roy (Jan) and Roger (Alma) Shramek of Swisher; sisters-in-law, Rose Ann Netolicky of Swisher and Bobbie Kolda of Cedar Rapids, along with many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Mary Kadera, her husband Ray; her sisters Wilma (Lubert) Reif and Bernice (Dennis) Kolda; her brothers-in-law Ernie Mouchka, Edward Jr. (Louise) Shramek and Leonard (Sylvia) Shramek, Leonard Netolicky, sisters-in-law Mildred (LeRoy) Ballard Sr., Marion (Joe) Benda and Alice (Jon) Galvin.
