R.J. "Jim" Kaas, age 93, peacefully departed this world on Dec. 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. The son of Dorothy and Francis Kaas of Burlington, Iowa, Jim was a proud Eagle Scout and served with honor in the US Marine Corps from 1948-1952, courageously fighting in the Korean War. His bravery earned him 2 Purple Hearts and The Bronze Star.
A devoted husband, Jim was first married to Joan Lange Kaas, with whom he raised eight children while embracing rural life in Marshalltown and Waukee. He later found love and companionship with Linda Stambaugh Kaas, when he remarried in 1985.
A successful career as a Project Manager with General Growth Properties showcased his engineering excellence building regional malls. A man of faith, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his moral principles and a legacy of resilience.
The family will gather in a private ceremony to celebrate a remarkable nine decades of love and laughter. May he rest in eternal peace.
Per his wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa for medical research.
