High Amana
John C. Demmel, age 53, of High Amana, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023, after a short battle with cancer, at his brother Joel and Becky’s home. Per John’s wishes, please dress casual for the services. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana, with Elders Emilie Hoppe and Jon Childers officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023, at Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana. Interment will be in the Homestead Cemetery, Homestead. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
John is survived by his daughter Sydney Demmel; his mother Judy Chesley; a step-father Darrel Chesley; three siblings, Jeff Demmel (Kris Gibson), Jennifer (Fred) Philipp and Joel (Becky) Demmel; seven nieces and nephews, Lindsey (Zach) Nelson, Natalie (Blake) Kuesel, Kylie Demmel, Matt Demmel, Hunter Philipp, Stone Philipp and Jenna Demmel; and four great-nieces and -nephews, Elliot Kuesel, Ethan Kuesel, Holland Nelson and Emersyn Kuesel. John was preceded in death by his father “Jim,” his paternal grandma, Adella Hewitt and her husband Charles “Chuck,” his paternal grandpa, Cecil Demmel, his maternal grandparents, Marie and Herb Fels and two uncles, Ron Fels and Dean Demmel.
John Charles Demmel was born May 24, 1970, the son of James and Judy (Fels) Demmel. He graduated in 1988 from Amana High School. Over the years, John was employed by Amana Farms, Centro and Amana Refrigeration as a material handler, for 28 years. John had a quick wit about him. He enjoyed walking around the lily pond, riding to Arkansas on motorcycles with his friends and family, reading and watching movies. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills and any team that played against the Dallas Cowboys. John loved riding his motorcycle, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
