Donald Joseph Ellis Sr., 70, of Marion, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 25, 2023. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a Celebration of his life in the Spring 2024. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Don was born on July 28, 1953, to Elton M. and Erma M. (Tracy) Ellis. A 1971 graduate of West Delaware High School, he joined the United States Army after graduation, retiring honorably as Sargeant First Class in 1991.
Don is survived by his sons, Donald J. Jr. “DJ” (Amber) Ellis of Idabel, OK, Brian Ellis of Paris, TX; grandson Mark Ellis of Vidor, TX.; a brother, James (Linda) Ellis of Ocala, FL; sisters Shirley McNamara of Manchester, IA and JoAnn (Brian) Reimer of Waukee, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Bernard “Jim” McNamara.
Memorials in Don’s memory may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or any charity that benefits disabled veterans.
