Hahn Bakery closing in the Amanas

Dec. 13, 2023 5:45 am
MIDDLE AMANA — Hahn Bakery, a 153-year-old institution, will be closing up shop as its namesake owner retires at the end of this year.
Doris Hahn and Hahn Bakery’s last day in business at 2510 J St. will be Dec. 31.
The Hahn Bakery has been in the family for more than 60 years. With Doris at the helm for the past 55 years, the family business baked family recipes — unchanged since their inception — in an old hearth oven. Doris Hahn and her husband, Jack, took over the bakery in 1968. Doris continued running the business after Jack died in 1997.
“Thank you, to everyone, for your continued support of our small family bakery — the memories, friendships and relationships over the decades have meant a lot to our family,” Doris’ daughter, Lori Hahn Rozenboom, said in a Nov. 30 social media post.
A previous social media post announcing the closure advises patrons hoping to stock up on bread, coffee cake, cinnamon rolls or pretzels to place orders well in advance.
Those hoping to wish Hahn well in her retirement can send a card to P.O. Box 23, Middle Amana, IA 52307.
