JoAnn Marie Fisher, 85, of Belle Plaine, Iowa. passed away Dec. 10, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
JoAnn was born Sept. 14, 1938, to James and Agnes (Martinek) Seda in Clutier, Iowa. She graduated from Clutier High School, class of 1957. She continued her education at Mt. Mercy graduating with a degree in nursing. On Sept. 5, 1959, JoAnn married Dale Fisher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier, Iowa.
JoAnn worked for a short time at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, before going to work for Dr. Douglas in Belle Plaine. The couple moved to Tennessee in 1969 following Dale’s career, and JoAnn continued her career as a nurse. Upon Dale’s retirement in 1981 they moved back to Iowa, where they settled in Belle Plaine returning to the same home they started in. JoAnn worked for the Belle Plaine Care Center, then Marshalltown Veterans Home in 1986 until retirement in 1999.
In 1996, together they opened Iowa Pheasants N More Hunting Lodge, running their business side-by-side for many years. Outside of the lodge the couple continued to cherish time together taking yearly trips to Leach Lake, Minn., driving her beloved Dynasty. Trying their hand at casinos from Meskwaki to Stardust Casino in Vegas; and numerous yard sales.
JoAnn had a love for family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Belle Plaine.
She is survived by her children, Shelly (Doug) Yanecek of Cedar Rapids, Eric (Julie) Fisher of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Weeda, Katilyn (Malik) Eskridge, Drew (Sydney) Yanecek; great-grandchildren, Rogan, Isaiah, Mateo and Israel; brother, Rollie (Mary) Seda of Clutier; sister, Lana Ray of Red Oak; and many more family and friends.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo (2022) brother, Jimmy (Martha) Seda, brother-in-law, Larry Ray; and sister-in-law, Donna (Dee) Roth.
Funeral Service is 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, with Russ Spading officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine.
