Ernst’s joke about choking leaves bad taste

During a recent GOP luncheon, Sen. Joni Ernst began choking on some food and Sen. Rand Paul performed the Heimlich maneuver on her. On the same day, Senator Ernst tweeted, “can’t help but choke on the woke policies the Dems are forcing down our throats.”
I would like to remind the Senator choking on food is serious. It should not be used as an opportunity to take a political jab. It is not a laughing matter. It can be fatal. My family and I would know; my husband died from this medical emergency just a year ago.
Her cavalier attitude demonstrates her lack of grace and decency. My family deserves more; Iowa deserves more.
