Rose Flaig, 69, of Waterloo, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa on Friday, Dec. 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, where she was a longtime member. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Rose loved spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s various events. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, crafting and crocheting, fishing, bicycling, and anything outdoors. She held a special place in her heart for the many family pets she had over the years.
Rose Kathleen Sloan was born on June 26, 1954, in Mower Township, Minn., the daughter of Darwin and Loretta (Ortegel) Sloan. She attended Lincoln Stanwood Community High School and graduated in the Class of 1972. She earned her nursing degree at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a dedicated nurse in community health, several area hospitals, nursing homes, and at Camp Courageous. She married Terry Flaig in 2019 in Big Fork, Minn.
She is remembered by her children Shelby (Timothy) Hollett, Anamosa, Mindy (Stephen) Sieck, Grinnell, Blake (Molly) Hubler, Anamosa, and Brittany Hubler, Broomfield, Colo.; stepdaughter Kodie Olson (Eric), La Porte City; grandchildren Nathan, Sean, Skylar, Kayla, Jeffrey, Katelyn, Cullen, and Zander; siblings Leona Rasmussen, Charlene West, Debra (Tim) Frame and Dennis Sloan; her former husband Steve Hubler; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Roger Sloan, and brothers-in-law Roger Rasmussen and Kenneth West.
