Howard “Gene” Williams, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. A Celebration of Life will be held at Stoney Point Villas, Cedar Rapids, on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation is serving the family.
Gene was born in Hedrick, Iowa, on April 20, 1928. He was united in marriage to Harriette “Joyce” Hedge on June 14, 1947. They were childhood mud-pie builders and high school sweethearts who spent 70 years together. Gene lived in the Ottumwa area for most of his life. He retired from Everco in 1987.
Gene enjoyed card games, checkers, puzzle solving and golf. He was an avid Hawkeyes and Cyclones fan, rarely missing a game. He always had a tender heart for man’s best friend and would greet any canine with enthusiasm. Gene treasured time spent with his family and friends.
Gene is survived by his children, Ron (Sandy) Williams of Cedar Rapids, Linda (Dan) Corzette of Galesburg, Ill., and Rus (Deb) Williams of Fairfax; six grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Jordan, Rhiannon, Tara and Megan; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Paxton of Ottumwa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and grandsons, Wes Corzette and Jake Williams.
