Fulfill a child’s holiday wishlist at Goldfinch Tap + Eatery
Marion restaurant partners with Marion schools to connect public with children in need

Dec. 5, 2023 5:45 am
MARION — Goldfinch Tap + Eatery is continuing its holiday tradition of connecting the public with the wish lists of children and families in the community with a Giving Tree.
Goldfinch, a restaurant at 740 10th St., Marion, hopes to support at least half the 200 children in need by fulfilling their wish lists with the help of the public. The wish lists are provided by the Marion Independent School District.
Each wish list — which hangs on a tree at Goldfinch — costs around $50 to fulfill, with children asking for items including clothes, books, board games and gift cards.
Through the Giving Tree, Goldfinch was able to help the public support about 45 families in the Marion community last Christmas.
Gifts must be returned by Dec. 12.
The Giving Tree is only one aspect of the restaurant’s “Christmas Take Over.” Staff have decked the halls in the theme of the North Pole and “A Christmas Story,” a 1983 Christmas comedy film that follows a young Ralphie Parker as he dodges a bully and dreams of the perfect Christmas.
In theme with the movie, a lamp shaped like a leg stands in the Goldfinch’s front window next to the Giving Tree.
Each booth has been transformed into a winter wonderland and named after one of Santa’s reindeer.
Throughout the month, Goldfinch is hosting family friendly holiday events:
- Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m., there will be painting and pancakes, including a holiday painting class followed by a pancake buffet. Tickets are required.
- Saturday, Dec. 16, from noon to 3 p.m., Santa Clause will be at Goldfinch for free pictures with Santa.
