Roger Allen Johnson, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at Lantern Park Specialty Center.
Family committal services will be held at a later date at Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Systems Unlimited, 2533 Scott Blvd. SE, Iowa City, IA 52240.
Roger was born on June 8, 1936, the son of John and Evelyn (Stager) Johnson. He grew up in Brayton, Iowa, and moved to Iowa City in 1978. Roger lived in a Systems Unlimited apartment for several years. For the past 17 years he had lived at Emerson Pointe. In May, 2023 he moved to Lantern Park.
Roger worked at the Iowa City Press–Citizen for 20 years. He took great pride in his work. In his free time, Roger loved to draw. He had a fascination for carnivals and loved to observe and draw what he saw.
Roger is survived by his sister, Romona (Jon) Shramek of Cedar Rapids and his brother, Royce (Peg) Johnson of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Ashburn, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald.
