Karen Rae Dunn, 76, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, at home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at New Covenant Bible Church, located at 3090 North Center Point Road in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jay Haugh will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Karen was born on July 14, 1947, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of John Glen and Vera E. (Yoder) Gascho. She was a 1965 graduate of North English High School and went on to attend the University of Iowa, where she earned her degree in nursing. On Aug. 20, 1988, Karen was united in marriage to Douglas Lloyd Dunn in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked as a nurse for the U of I Hospitals and Clinics and a doctor’s office in Sioux City. She enjoyed flower gardening, watching the birds, making cards for many, and doing puzzles and was an avid Hawkeyes fan. She and Doug enjoyed square dancing over the years. Karen loved and supported New Covenant Bible Church and volunteered for the Christian’s Women’s Club. She served as a Prayer Warrior with Serve the City. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother who will never be forgotten for her great sense of humor. Karen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Doug Dunn of Marion; three sons, Donald Zebarth of Sioux City, Iowa, Brian (Heather) Zebarth of Palm Bay, Fla., and Jeff (Toni) Dunn of Columbus, Neb.; grandchildren, Kody, Ellexis, Josiah, Aubriana, Makinna, Elijah, Ezra, and Judah; sister, Janice Berger of Wellman, Iowa; and brother, Dave (Mindi) Gascho of Ankeny, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Muriel Lehman and Judy Walter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to New Covenant Bible Church.
