In the season’s first widespread snowfall this weekend, most of Eastern Iowa saw up to about 3 inches of snow, but some reported 4 inches or more, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow across parts of Iowa, Illinois, Kansas and Missouri primarily fell Saturday evening through midday Sunday, tapering off by early Sunday afternoon, the weather service reported. Bands of heavier show across Eastern Iowa and Northeast Missouri led to some localized higher amounts.
The highest snowfall amount in Eastern Iowa reported was 4.4 inches by Sunday afternoon in Lowden, along Highway 30 in Cedar County.
But other locations were close behind, according to the weather service, which reported its own official totals as well as measurements reported by trained spotters and the public:
- 4.1 inches west of Cedar Rapids;
- 4.1 inches in southwestern Marion;
- 4 inches in Cou Falls, near the Hawkeye Wildlife Management Area in Johnson County;
- 4 inches in Fairfax in Linn County.
Other locations included 3.7 inches in Hiawatha, 2.9 inches in Iowa City and 3 inches in Washington.
Highs are forecast to be below freezing until Wednesday, when they are expected to reach 40 in Cedar Rapids and 42 in Iowa City.
