Gerald V. Hart, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023, in Mercy Medical Center. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Christine; his children, Candace (Ryan) Warner of San Jose, Calif., and Zachary Hart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his grandchildren, Lucas, Anna and Howard Warner; and his siblings, Sheryl (Walter) Plank of Texas, Carole (Gary) Anderson of Burlington, Iowa, and Laurel (Pete) Nash of Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald was born July 31, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Alva and Pearl (Eveland) Hart. He married Christine Kohl on Dec. 31, 1980, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gerald was a custodian for Linn County facilities. He enjoyed hiking, motorcycles, football, going fishing, playing cards and scrabble. He also enjoyed bonfires with friends. His love for the outdoors brought him to Yellowstone National Park being one with nature. He would have been a great tour guide with his knowledge and guidance of places visited.
