Rose “Rosie” Marie Nolan, 76, of Cedar Rapids died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023. Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Masonville.
Rosie is survived by her daughter Janis (Bill) Fortin; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Joanna Fortin, all of Danville; sister Kay Kayser; sister-in-law Carolyn Nolan; brother-in-law Greg Schaefers; niece that she loved like a daughter, Brenda Achey, all of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Nolan; two sisters, Marjorie Ellen “Marge” Schaefers and Betty Achey; and brother-in-law Gene Kayser.
Rose Marie was born on Oct. 14, 1947, in Manchester, the daughter of John and Mildred McElliott Nolan. She graduated from Starmont High School in 1966. Rosie worked at United Fire Group for 35 years.
Rosie was fiercely independent and whatever she wanted to do, she did it!
She loved her family and friends deeply. She had many friends, but especially dear to her were her “Forever Friends” group that she had been close to and kept in regular contact with since high school. Growing up in Masonville, the Francois family were her neighbors and she felt she had a place as an honorary family member. One of Rosie’s nieces described her as “The Fun One.” She was very proud that she was 100-percent Irish, was always cheering loudly for Notre Dame and was a die-hard Democrat.
Almost 10 years ago, she reunited with her daughter she had given up for adoption at birth. This brought her such joy and happiness…the best days of her life!
Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
