Betty Jane "Janie" McGowan
Marion
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Betty Jane (Janie) McGowan. Janie fought Lewy Body Dementia until the very end and died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Janie was born on Jan. 23, 1947, to parents Alfred and Betty Berger in Marion, Iowa. She spent many years working at Berger Furrier until retirement and pursued volunteer opportunities and time with friends.
Janie had a loving heart and would spark joy in anyone she talked to. She was outgoing and loved conversing with people whether it was a grocery clerk or a stranger. She possessed a “gift of gab” that was warm and welcoming.
Janie’s sense of humor carried her through to the very end. She was able to see the good in everything and every situation. She lived a full life and spread her humor to all. Janie’s love of animals was shown by the enumerable pets throughout her life and the tributes to them through art, pictures, and memories, most recently her cat Boo Boo who “ran the roost” in her words.
Janie is survived by her three sons, Joby, Adam (Julie), and Casey (Jane); and five grandchildren, Stoan, Tripp, Mackenzie, Abigail, and Emilee.
The family will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life and in lieu of cards and/or flowers, please consider a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.LBDA.org/donate/) in her honor.
Please share your support and memories with Janie’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.
A special thanks to the staff of Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa for the support, care, and friendship that Janie and her family experienced.
