After six years of appendix cancer, I decided to let the chemo, radiation, and surgeries all go. Of course, letting go of my two beautiful children, my loving family, and my wonderful friends was not as easy. I will miss you. You made my life so good.

Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Stahmer (Reisch) died on Nov. 22, 2023. She was born Oct. 17, 1952, to Jim and Lela (Simpson) Reisch in Salix, Iowa. After graduating from Westwood Community Schools in 1970 and the University of South Dakota in 1974, she began teaching 7th grade math at Tipton Community Schools. She loved Tipton and her students. She married Melvin (Mel) Stahmer on April 25, 1987. They had two children, Carly and Jon. When the children were ready to start school, Kathy worked part time in the area, first at Police Law Institute and then at Russel J Meade CPA. When the kids were small, nothing was better than playing games and reading to them. Throughout life, she loved cooking, baking, reading, and her flower garden.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, her father, her brother-in-law Mike Streeter, and her niece and nephew, Amy and Jacob Lander. She leaves behind her children, Carly (Peter) Lamp and Jon Stahmer (Ginny); three sisters, Gayleen Reisch, Denise (Mark) Clark, Mary (Joe) Lander; and sister-of-the-heart Karen (Sharon) Keith-Zamora. On the Stahmer side, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Luella Stahmer, nephews Gerald and Travis Waters, sisters-in-law Darlene Waters, Jude Stahmer, and Carolyn Stahmer, and brothers-in-law Jerry Waters and LaVern Stahmer. She leaves behind brother-in-law Harlan Stahmer and sister-in-law Eileen (Jim) Meyers.

She also leaves behind many cherished friends, nieces and nephews, and their children.

In the story of my life, each counted and each was adored. You will never know the joy you brought to my life.

A time for family and friends to gather will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Oxford American Legion at 128 E. Main Street, Oxford, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
