Placing emphasis on taxpayers’ investment

My name is Pete Johnson and I am a candidate for Marion City Council in Ward 2.

Like all who run for public office, I believe I can make a positive difference for the taxpayers of Marion. Unlike others, I have unique qualifications that will allow me to accomplish this.

I am a small-business owner. I understand the impact of high taxes on businesses and families, and I will work to make sure that taxpayers get the highest value for their money.

I am self-financing my campaign. I have no ties to any influential people or groups that may cloud my judgment on issues facing Marion taxpayers. Further, I have no conflicts of interest that will prevent me from voting on any issue.

I understand the need for planning and for prudence when it comes to spending other people's money. Just because we can do something doesn't necessarily mean we should do it.

I believe that residential growth without job growth is unsustainable and leads to higher taxes for everyone.

I do not believe that low- and fixed-income residents should have to consider moving away from Marion, a town they helped build, because they can no longer afford their taxes.

Lastly, I believe elections are about fixing things that are wrong and accentuating things that are right. We have many good things in Marion, especially our residents. We collectively will have a bright future if we make the correct decisions now.
