Jerry Allen Wood, 75, of Swisher, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at St. Lukes Living Center West. Celebration of life gathering will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Celebration of Jerry’s 76th birthday will be Jan. 13, 2024, starting at 3 p.m. at the Swisher American Legion. Private family inurnment will be in Shueyville Cemetery.
Jerry was born on Jan. 13, 1948, in Oelwein, the son of Archie Eli and Delores Mae (Damon) Wood. He graduated from Prairie High School, Class of 1966. Jerry was united in marriage to Janice Hickey on Sept. 21, 1968, at Asbury Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was an electrician for over 48 years, with IBEW Local 405, and traveled six years before owning the bar. He really enjoyed running and owning Woody’s Corner Inn, in Swisher, but hated the “Salt Slide.” He liked to spend time with his grandkids and all his extended family and friends. Jerry was a jokester and life of the party! He enjoyed “Happy Hour” at the Swisher Legion and never turned down a beer, glass of wine, or a shot.
Jerry is survived by his wife Janice; his daughter Wendee (Dan) Ealy, and son Erik (Kristin) Wood; five grandchildren, Hunter (Sarah), Abbey and Chloe Ealy, Brinley Wood, and Josieanne Wood (Skylar Cox); his sister Kerry (Dave) Dlouhy; his brother Larry Wood; his brothers-in-law David, Dennis (Barb), and Doug “Hick” (Bev) Hickey; his sisters-in-law Judy (Joe) Franc, Joan (John) Peterka, and Joyce Barber; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom.
