Accident in Muscatine County kills one, injures 4-year-old child

An accident in Muscatine County south of Nichols Saturday morning killed a driver and injured two others, including a 4-year-old child.

According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, at about 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning a Ford Explorer was traveling north on Iowa Highway 70 near Nichols when it crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Chevy Malibu.

According to the report, the driver of the Chevy was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A 4-year-old child was properly restrained in the vehicle but still suffered injuries. The driver of the Ford and the child were both transported by West Liberty Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of their injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The names of the occupants of both vehicles are being withheld pending the completion of investigation and the notifacation of family members.
