James Ellwood McCright was born Oct. 6, 1943, in Walker, Iowa, to Charles and Merle (Wright) McCright, Troy Mills, Iowa. Jim was preceded in death by an infant son, James McCright, and an infant sister, Debra McCright. Jim married Connie Gray Nov. 5, 1966, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Jim is survived by his wife Connie and two sons, Matthew (Mya), Athens, Texas; and Clinton, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three grandsons, David, Alex and Eric McCright. He is also survived by siblings, Connie Butterfield, Iowa City, Shari Kuhn, West Des Moines, Jerry McCright, Mayer, Ariz.; Terrie Johnson (Dick), Vinton; and Doug McCright (Debbie), McKinney, Texas.
Jim graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1962 and from UNI with a degree in education in 1967. Jim was in the U.S. Army 1968 - 1970 and the Army Reserve in Waterloo and Minneapolis for eight years. He taught Junior High Science and coached girls high school basketball and junior high track and football at Postville, Iowa for three years, 1970 - 1973. He was a Farm Bureau Insurance Agent in Waterloo, Iowa for two years and was an agency manager at Cresco Iowa for four years.
Jim and Connie moved to Oklahoma City in 1980 where he coached Little League Baseball for over 40 years. He graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1983 with a law degree and was a practicing attorney for 37 years.
Funeral service will be on Nov. 18, 2023, 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oklahoma City, Okla.
