Lawrence “Larry” Donner, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov.17, 2023, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Larry was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Leland and Gertrude (Brown) Donner and the family moved to Cedar Rapids when he was 3 years old. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1960 and attended Loras College. On Nov. 6, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Janice Urban in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Link Belt Speeder (FMC) and Rockwell Collins before retiring in 2002. Larry played fast and slow-pitch softball and was a member of the Moose Lodge and Cedar Rapids Bowling Association.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janice Donner; children, Chris (Wendy) Donner of Vergennes, Vt., Matt Donner, and Joel (Sarah) Donner of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kaylee (AJ) Green, Bryce, Chaise, Peighton, and Skylar; and sister, Jean Buehner of Cedar Rapids.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Gertrude Donner; and brother-in-law, Jack Buehner.
