Iowa’s next game: Friday vs. Alabama State, 7 p.m.
What to know: It’s the season-opener for both. Iowa has won its last 12 openers.
Tuesday is the Iowa regular-season debut for senior transfer Ben Krikke and four freshmen, all of whom are in Fran McCaffery’s 10-player rotation.
The Summit League’s North Dakota Fighting Hawks were 13-20 last season. Their leading scorer of last season, guard B.J. Omot, is a sophomore who tallied 25 points in 17 minutes during UND’s 107-48 exhibition win over Northland College last Wednesday.
Eli King, a sophomore guard who transferred from Iowa State after playing in just nine games there, started for the Hawks in their exhibition. Also on the roster is forward Amar Kuljuhovic of Waterloo, a junior college transfer.
UND Coach Paul Sather told the Grand Forks Herald “We're going to have our hands full (at Iowa), but what a great opportunity. If it's a two-possession game, three, and you're giving yourself an opportunity, anything can happen. Basketball is a funny game.”
“We have all the players to do it,” said Omot. “We have all the keys, so we just have to go over there and prove people wrong.”
