Voting yes for safe, innovative learning environments

Thank you to the Gazette for sponsoring the forum regarding the Cedar Rapids Community School District bond issue. Watching both sides of this issue made it crystal clear that I will be voting yes to support the children in our district.
I did not grow up in the Cedar Rapids area. I’m the daughter of an Air Force Colonel. As we moved throughout the country every few years, my parents chose where to live based on the school district's teachers, buildings, and opportunities. The school district I graduated from passed bonds every 3-4 years to meet the community’s needs. I am in awe of the quality schools each time I visit home. I’m proud to be a graduate of that thriving community.
I would like that same feeling in our Cedar Rapids schools. I’m not looking for fancy and shiny. I’m looking for a safe, secure, innovative, and supportive learning environment for all of our children. Our current buildings are in no way ready for our technological needs. As a former teacher, I’m excited for the career and technical opportunities; functional practice space for students in PE, band, and sports; and for the Kennedy and Metro students to have updated buildings. I want building entrances to be ADA accessible and safer for everyone, including visiting grandparents. I want to retain our already amazing teachers and staff and a culture that builds pride for everyone.
I will vote yes for this opportunity to invest in our community!
